Mimi Fox
She's the Woman

Favored Nations

Jazz guitar fans take note. Six-string wonder Mimi Fox is back with her latest release, "She's the Woman," released on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label. Fox's style is rooted in modern jazz bop, but she dabbles in other genres such as world music on "Sosua" and traditional balladry on "Raquel, Mi Amor." The opening track, "East Coast Attitude" features Fox's ultra finesse and extraordinary flair as a guitarist with her lightning-fast fretwork and ability to command the best performances from her backing band. Fox's choice of covers on "She's the Woman" is eclectic: ranging from a straightforward interpretation "Darn That Dream" to radical reworking
of the Beatles' "She's a Woman." While it may be difficult to fully capture the experience of Fox's magic on a studio recording, this CD is a varied and solid contemporary album by one of jazz's guitar wizards.
